ABOUT US
The name Perspective reflects a simple but fundamental belief: that the way we understand our experiences has the power to shape how we respond to them.
Whether we are exploring a child's behaviour, a young person's emotions, or a family's experiences, we believe that every behaviour, emotion and life event is meaningful. Rather than asking, "How do we stop this?" or "How do we fix this?", we begin by asking, "What is this communicating?" and "What might we understand if we looked at this from a different perspective?"
Children often communicate through their behaviour when they do not yet have the words to express their thoughts, feelings or needs.
Parents and carers may also carry experiences of worry, frustration, guilt or uncertainty that influence how challenges are understood and managed. By taking time to consider the wider context, relationships and individual experiences, we can begin to develop a shared understanding that is compassionate, evidence-based and meaningful.
At Perspective Psychology Practice, we believe that understanding comes before intervention. When children, young people and families feel truly understood, they are better placed to build confidence, strengthen relationships and create lasting positive change. Sometimes, changing our perspective is the first step towards changing the path ahead.
Why Perspective
Perspective Psychology Practice was founded by Dr Bishop a Registered Counselling Psychologist with over ten years of experience supporting children, young people, adults and families across a range of clinical settings.
Alongside independent practice, Dr Bishop has held a clinical leadership role within a specialist children's service, working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to support children and young people with a wide range of emotional, behavioural and mental health needs. Her experience spans both outpatient and inpatient services, where she has provided psychological assessment, formulation and evidence-based interventions tailored to the unique needs of each individual.
Dr Bishop has developed expertise in supporting children and young people with Neurodevelopmental profiles including those with Autism (ASD) and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). She has a particular interest in Positive Behaviour Support (PBS), understanding behaviour as communication, and developing compassionate, individualised approaches that promote meaningful and lasting change. She is passionate about working not only with children and young people, but also alongside parents, carers, schools and the wider professional networks to create consistent and collaborative support.
In addition to her direct clinical work, Dr Bishop has experience providing clinical leadership, supervision and consultation to multidisciplinary professionals and teams, supporting the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based care.
At the heart of Perspective Psychology Practice is a commitment to providing compassionate, collaborative and individualised psychological support. Every child, young person and family is unique, and by taking the time to understand their experiences from a different perspective, we aim to help families feel understood, empowered and supported to move forward with confidence.
